Central Midfield enforcer:
Blackburn is the Rolls Royce of the St Johns Engine Room and has been a consistent performer over the past 4 seasons in the holding midfielder role. Last season he was finally awarded the captaincy which coincided with St Johns being runaway leaders in Division 1 by Xmas time.
Along with Roy Keane box-to-box stamina, Steven Gerrard aggression/drive, Xabi Alonso passing range on either foot, Blackburn delivers a Beckham style free-kick from long distance.
Coldplay dedicated one of their earlier songs to Blackburn, “Yellow”, referring to a card that is frequently brandished to this combative midfielder. When red cards looks certain, Blackburn turns on the charm and always gets away with murder. Over the years he has put his body on the line on many occasions and surprisingly very rarely misses a game or a training session.
Last season Blackburn was voted Players Player of the Year despite having half a dozen different partners in the centre of midfield. This was a testimony to this legends ability to dominate the midfield literally single-handedly. He is the new penalty taker for St Johns 2005-2006 season.
